Action 8. Ask the administration to finalize power plant emissions standards.

Here’s an easy one, because NRDC has already done all the work: ask the administration to finalize standards for new power plants and create standards for existing ones. Why is this important? Well, the Environmental Protection Agency, the folks regulating said plants, states it pretty plainly: “Power plants are the largest individual sources of carbon pollution in the United States and currently there are no uniform national limits on the amount of carbon pollution that future power plants will be able to emit.” EPA unveiled its draft rule for new plants in May 2012, and for some pretty obvious reasons- coal-fired plants would have a very hard time meeting the standard set of 1,000 lbs per megawatt-hour- there’s been quite the fight to get these finalized.
