Action 23. Attend the No Coal Train Rally in Seattle.

Today we ventured into our typical grey and misty weather to join hundreds of folks protesting the proposed coal train export terminal in Seattle. I’ll refer you back to Action 5 for more on this issue. Mayor McGinn gave an articulate and excellent speech about the importance of balancing the claims of jobs made by the proponents of this terminal against the severe impacts that would be felt by many sectors of the Seattle area economy from the traffic impacts and disruption, as well as the long-term climate and pollution impacts. As McGinn said, ““We know how to create clean jobs. We like our quality of life. We like our clean air. We like our clean water.”

My daughter’s favorite part, of course, was the extremely large paper mache polar bear. 🙂
